My First Menu Board

Created by:  Myself and Mom (this is our original creation)
Inspired by:  10+ different menu boards searched on Pinterest
Part of:  Project Organize & Project Creativity
Price: About $25 with coupon used
Stores:  Hobby Lobby & Michaels in Washington State

Supplies:
  • Painted picture frame with a magnetic board already assembled (one piece)
  • Scrapbook papers of desired color and design for background (1 large sized), fabric envelope (1 large sized), and heading & meals (4-6 regular size letter cardstock).
  •  Letters in sticker form of designed color and font
  • Small bottle of acrylic paint in desired color
  • Wooden circles
  • Magnet circles
  • Cute flower decor or flourish
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam brushes
  • Magnet glue
  • Packaging tape
  • Laminator and laminating sheets
  • Meals printed onto paper
  • Packing tape
Directions: Measure and cut to size your background piece of scrapbook paper.  Make sure it fits inside of the frame.  Using Mod Podge and your foam brushes paint the glue onto the magnetic board and apply the sized paper (I left a space at the top to glue my heading paper). Brush and smooth, wait for it to dry.  Paint your wooden circles as desired including front, back, and sides.  Allow this to dry (I paint 2 coats). Cut your heading to fit at the top of your frame as desired.  Glue onto the magnet board at the top of your frame, let dry.  Apply your vinyl lettering stickers on your heading as designed.  Paint entire background and heading with Mod Podge, let dry.

Apply your vinyl lettering to the wooden circles to symbolize the days of the week and smooth.  Paint over with Mod Podge, let dry.  Fold your fabric envelope using your scrapbook paper.  Apply your vinyl lettering to the envelope and smooth. Instead of Mod Podge, tape using packaging tape and smooth down. Glue your magnets centered on the back of your flowers or flourishes, wooden circles, and paper envelope.  Allow these to dry overnight for optimal success.

On the letter-sized scrapbook paper (tan) feed into your printer and print out in desired font your favorite 28 meals with large spaces in between each meal.  I included a few blank ones or ones with a blank line (_____).  Then cover with a laminating sheet and use your laminator (or go to a local place to get these papers laminated).  Cut meals in strips - these will be stuffed in your paper envelope.

The next day assemble your menu board in whatever creative way you would like! And if you get sick of it, feel free to re-assemble since everything has a magnet!
